Anonymous asked: Hi! Have you noticed that when Dembe was taking Naomi to the car, Red started walking towards Berlin´s car with a strange face? Did that mean anything? Maybe I´m over analyzing this show haha. And another thing, aren´t you tired of seeing such an emotionless Lizzie? I mean, I know bad things have happened to her but cmon! Red keeps showing that he cares (since ep 1) and she goes "I was just doing my job" I HATE IT!!! I need more red and lizzie RIGHT NOW :(

I think a good number of us spend far too much time over analyzing this show. *chuckle*

I describe Red’s look in this scene as full of fury. He could barely control himself in my opinion, and walked forward putting himself in jeopardy but also making a point that he was not about to back down. Dembe was concerned as he called to him which may very well be the reason he became still.

We all know how amazing Spader is, but this scene showcased how he transitions from deep emotion (reaching out but not touching Naomi) to anger in a split second.

You can see a glimpse of that face [here] in the last gif by selinabln. And here’s a low quality screen cap.

As for Liz, I believe she is bottling her emotion, fighting against the connection and pull she feels toward Red. And I think her fight is well justified and she’s in the place she needs to be right now. After all, he killed Sam; Tom was in her life because of Red; Red has caused her nothing but torment, but he’s also brought her truth so she hangs on, wanting answers. Despite everything, she sticks with him; and though she may not be prepared to admit it to herself, her feelings for Red are evolving - “He’ll kill you” (obvious concern); “I hope she’s worth it” (jealousy?).

Do I get tired of waiting? Sometimes. But then they give us scenes like they did in S2E2 which makes the wait more than worth it, better even. Liz needs to be his equal if they’re going to have a lasting relationship, and now she’s well on her way.

Thanks for the ask.

This scene alone should garner him an Emmy. How many actors can portray this depth without words? Also, a clarification - a tear was not shed by Red - see next to last gif. Thank you @selinabln!

^it may not have actually shed, but it damn near looks close to falling… left eye… it’s def. there.  guess he pulls it back in :(

eaglechica19, well, Megan mentioned Spader’s powers in a recent interview and tear retrieval may very well be one of them. He may have thought, “Nope, not gonna let it fall right now. Saving the tear for Jennifer or when Liz finally says, “You have me.”

Anonymous asked: With all this curiosity about Red and his family's past people are kinds forgetting about his connection with Lizzie. It gets me kinda anxious bc I care more about this mistery than the other. And because most of the theories made here still can't explain why does he care for her so much, ever since she was little. Love your blog!

Hello and thank you for the ask. I’m happy you like the blog!

Red’s connection with Liz won’t be revealed for years to come, so sit back and enjoy the ride. It’s going to be bumpy much of the time as that’s the nature of the show, but the angst is also what makes it such fun. Don’t worry, we’ll get there and I know we’re going to have some beautiful (and agonizing) Red and Liz moments along the way.

I agree with you, what Red is to Liz is the main mystery of the show, and though it may be pushed to the backburner at times, that story is still bubbling away. S2E2 was a perfect example of this - Red’s history with Naomi and his daughter, Jennifer, was at the forefront but they kept Liz subtly front and center as well when Berlin told Red that Red cared for Liz as much as Naomi. And that end scene between them held so much restrained emotion it was palpable through the tv screen.

The Executive Producers have stated S1 was about Liz and that S2 is about Red, but we know their stories are intermingled, and really we can’t have one without the other.

Heeere’s Johnny! Reddington!

We had to make her extremely strong, because people don’t want to watch weak female characters any more. Her tendency to flare up into these tantrums, and for her temper to just go out of control, evolved and changed into a woman who is not afraid to fight, with an aggression that people really like to see.

Megan Boone on Liz’s evolution.

_____

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is happy to hear that Liz will no longer be storming out angry. As @pekingese333 and I often discuss, it’s time for Liz to grab hold of Red this season and demand an answer. She needs to get in his face. Literally.

This article also has this quote on how Megan works with James:

Boone says she has learnt a lot from Spader’s acting style. “I am a very sentimental, vulnerable person. My heartstrings are right out there to be plucked. He’s a very methodical actor, analytical, and those two different approaches complement each other on screen.

"We’ve developed a shorthand with one another and we know exactly what the other needs to find their way."

Yes! Thank you @hannibalsavvy!

Exactly what Liz should have said.

I’ve never had such an intense role before. For me, rising to the challenge is first and foremost, and in order to do that, I needed to find levity. What I started to do towards the end of the season is listen to music on set. Music is so powerful, and if I find the right song, it can balance my mind, so I can take on those emotional, heavy scenes and feel centred again afterwards.

Is this our first time seeing Red shed a tear?

I realize we’ve seen him watery-eyed about a billion times, but have any tears escaped before?

omg my heart just broke.

My heart 💔 imo he cried for the life he had-for the pain he caused-for the person he has become-for the things he still needs to do..and so many more. No words needed..

Yes, this is the first tear actually shed.

Miscellaneous Shiny Things re: “Monarch Douglas Bank”

yayfortea:

Fair warning: This is an exercise in over-thinking and blocks of text. No, really.

  • Beginning of episode: Mr. Kaplan has just comforted Red when she notices one of his victims hasn’t quite finished dying. As Red takes out his gun to finish the task, what does Mr. Kaplan do? She shields her face with her hand. She can’t watch this man be killed. Her expression, by the way, looks equal parts concerned and nauseous.
  • Delicious lip-glances during dialogue! Red is briefing Liz on the bank assault in Warsaw, and tells her that according to the official statement, nothing was actually stolen. Liz asks, “And according to you?” Cue liplook.
